I had booked a trip aboard the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watchwhales.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Odyssey<\/a> and wouldn&#8217;t you know that just as I was leaving to catch the vessel, a few whales appeared in the waters below our hotel.\u00a0 Definitely a good sign.<\/p>\n<p>The one drawback to whale watching excursions is that they happen on a boat and some stomachs can&#8217;t stomach the choppy seas. Without getting\u00a0 too descriptive, let me just say that one hour into our chase of the &#8220;J&#8221; pod (there are 3 out here &#8211; J,K,L) I had to reach for\u00a0 the Dramamine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/worldsbestwalks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/june-29-melisa-2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-464\" title=\"June 29, Melisa 2\" src=\"http:\/\/worldsbestwalks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/june-29-melisa-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a>Even that didn&#8217;t dampen my enthusiasm for what I saw.\u00a0 The naturalist on board says the group of whales we saw were led by an Orca named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whaleresearch.com\/J2_Party.html\" target=\"_blank\">J2 by researchers, She is\u00a0 also known as &#8220;Granny&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0 Granny is 100 years old and there is a celebration in her honor on July 2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/worldsbestwalks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/june-29-2011-038.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-465 alignright\" title=\"June 29, 2011 038\" src=\"http:\/\/worldsbestwalks.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/june-29-2011-038.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"279\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a>Orcas\u00a0 are extremely difficult to photograph because the law forbids boats and humans from coming within\u00a0 100 yards. They only show themselves for seconds at a time but when they do it is a magnificent sight.\u00a0 The good folks at San Juan Excursions took <a href=\"http:\/\/www.watchwhales.com\/Photos_from_Trips\/11-6-29-odfjhdfgdhwerkjgber.html\" target=\"_blank\">pics from our trip<\/a> and shared them with the passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a day meant for whale watching.
